Albany Senior High School Student Nominated for
Prestigious Future Female Leaders Program
Lily, 16, a current student in Year 11 at Albany Senior High School, has been nominated for the esteemed Future Female Leaders Program (FFLP). This innovative mentorship initiative, designed for Year 11 girls across Western Australia, aims to empower young women by equipping them with essential skills, experiences, and conversations necessary for success.
Lily was inspired to apply for the program by her friend, who attends another local school in Albany and participated in the program last year. "My friend encouraged me to apply because she saw qualities in me that I didn't recognise," Lily said. "I thought it seemed like an incredible opportunity that I couldn't pass up at this point in my life."
The application process for the FFLP was rigorous and designed to ensure that only the most committed candidates were selected. Lily explained, "I filled out an application detailing who I am and what I'm passionate about. I also gathered references from teachers and family, submitting everything by the end of last year."
The main objective of the FFLP is for participants to develop a social impact project based on one of the United Nations' 17 sustainability goals. Lily has chosen to focus on gender equality and is eager to launch her project with the program's support. "Besides working on my project, I'm also learning invaluable skills like networking, communication, self-awareness, and critical thinking through group discussions and one-on-one mentoring. It's an incredible learning experience," she shared.
The program spans six months, during which Lily and the other participants are flown to Perth once a month for meetings with mentors, program coordinators, and fellow participants. "We're currently in the second month, and by September, I will graduate from the program. Twenty girls are participating this year, including five from rural areas like me. It's been an amazing experience, and I've made friends from all over WA."
Lily considers herself fortunate to have two personal mentors guiding her through the program. "Having two mentors is amazing. They provide so much support, and it's really helping me get the most out of this experience."
She encourages current Year 10 girls to apply for the program next year. "This is a unique opportunity that many girls don't get, and it's completely free. There are numerous big investors who believe in this vision. I urge everyone to follow FFLP on social media or visit their website to learn more."
Lily's journey through the Future Female Leaders Program is a testament to her dedication and the potential for young women to make significant societal contributions. Her efforts in promoting gender equality and developing essential leadership skills are commendable, and she sets a positive example for her peers.
