Mitchell, a dedicated Year 10 student from Albany Senior High School, has recently achieved a significant milestone by being selected to represent Western Australia in the School Sport Australia Games held on the Gold Coast, Queensland. Mitchell, who has a deep passion for hockey, competed in the 15 years and under division, playing against other top school teams from across the country.
The journey to the national stage was a challenging one. Mitchell underwent three rigorous elimination trials open to any WA player under the age of 15. His impressive performance in these trials earned him a spot on the state team, leading to weekly trips to Perth for intense training sessions and practice matches.
The national championships took place from 27 July to 3 August, 2024, where Mitchell and his team played six competitive matches against other state school teams. The first game kicked off on Sunday, and the tournament culminated with the finals on Saturday morning. Throughout the week, Mitchell showcased his skills on the field and built lasting friendships with teammates and opponents alike.
Reflecting on his experience, Mitchell expressed his enjoyment and gratitude for the opportunity to play at such a high level. "I really enjoyed the experience and made new friends. I'm hoping to keep improving my hockey and hopefully have more opportunities in the future," he said.
Albany Senior High School is extremely proud of Mitchell's accomplishments and wishes him continued success in his hockey career. His dedication and achievements serve as an inspiration to his peers and the entire school community.
