Marine Science is well and truly back for 2025, and our students have been busy setting up experiments and carefully documenting their work. Thanks to the generous support of Coastwest grants, we’ve been able to enhance the accuracy of our research by measuring light intensity — a key factor in validating our data.
Our drone has given students the incredible opportunity to capture a bird’s-eye view of our stunning local harbours, adding an exciting new dimension to their observations. Alongside our ongoing research into fish populations, this year we will be bringing seagrass into the laboratory to further investigate the impact of temperature changes on the marine ecosystem.
One of the most exciting projects for 2025 is the establishment of a new seagrass meadow on a previously barren patch of sand at Emu Point. This hands-on conservation work will not only deepen students’ scientific understanding but also leave a positive and lasting environmental legacy.
It’s fantastic to see our students so engaged in meaningful, real-world learning — making discoveries and contributing to the health of our local marine environment.
