This year's Year 10 Career Camp took students on a whirlwind tour of career pathways, university life and personal growth, packed across four big days in Perth. From behind-the-scenes industry experiences to campus tours and a visit to Parliament House, students came away with a much clearer picture of the opportunities waiting for them after school.
Day 1: Perth Zoo
Career Camp kicked off with a visit to Perth Zoo for the "Zooper Careers" experience, giving students a behind-the-scenes look at the many roles that keep the zoo running each day. Beyond the usual visitor experience, students explored career pathways in animal care, conservation, operations and education, discovering just how many different skills it takes to run a place like Perth Zoo.
Day 2: Curtin University and Perth Stadium
Day two saw students explore Curtin University in teams, getting a genuine feel for university life. They toured learning spaces and residential colleges, and learned what day to day student life actually looks like. The afternoon brought a change of pace with a behind-the-scenes tour of Perth Stadium, where students learned what goes into running major events, even getting the chance to step onto the field itself.
Day 3: UWA, Parliament House and ADF Careers Centre
Day three began at UWA, with students exploring the campus, learning about study pathways and touring the residential colleges to get a sense of independent living and university community life. From there, students visited Parliament House, gaining insight into government, leadership and the role it plays in shaping our state. The day wrapped up at the ADF Careers Centre, where students explored career and training opportunities within the Defence Force.
Day 4: ECU Joondalup and Murdoch University
The final day of Career Camp took students to ECU Joondalup, followed by Murdoch University, rounding out their tour of WA's tertiary institutions and the pathways each one offers. Camp finished on a high note with a well earned late night shopping trip to Karrinyup, a fitting way to wrap up four big days of learning, exploring and looking ahead to the future.
Career Camp continues to be a valuable experience for our Year 10 students, opening their eyes to the huge range of pathways available to them after school. A big thank you to all the staff who organised and supervised the camp, and to the venues and institutions who welcomed our students so warmly.
