Albany Senior High School students recently took part in a powerful and moving learning experience through Koora Waangkininy Boodjar – Long Time Ago Talking on Country.
Presented by our dedicated Aboriginal Support Coordinators, Charmaine Climo and Renarta Coyne, the session explored more than 220 years of Aboriginal history. Through thoughtful storytelling and truth-telling, students gained a deeper understanding of the impact of colonisation and the enduring strength of Aboriginal people and culture.
The session deeply resonated with students, sparking reflection and conversation. Some of their responses included:
“I didn’t realise how many people were killed.”
“It took so long for the government to apologise for what was done.”
“I didn’t realise how sad all the history was.”
We extend our sincere thanks to Charmaine and Renarta for creating a safe space for this important learning and for helping our students grow in knowledge, empathy, and respect.
