Year 10 Course Counselling for Senior Secondary Pathways
At Albany SHS, we offer a range of academic and vocational options to suit diverse post-school plans in Years 11 and 12.
ATAR courses focus on academic study, requiring students to complete at least four Year 12 ATAR courses, often as a pathway to university, although they also prepare students for vocational training. Curtin University’s UniReady Program provides a path to higher education, awarding a notional Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 70. General courses are designed for students aiming for vocational training or immediate employment and include practical, industry-specific skills. Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications, also contribute to the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). School-based VET, apprenticeships, traineeships, and Workplace Learning programs provide valuable hands-on experience.
More information can be found in the Albany SHS curriculum handbook under Years 11-12.
In Year 10, the school’s course counselling team meets with students and families to select subjects and plan their pathway into senior school and beyond.
