Health & Physical Education (HPE) Uniform & Participation Requirements
Clothing and Equipment for General Physical Education
To ensure student safety and hygiene, all students must wear the correct Physical Education uniform and are expected to change before and after physical activity. This is a requirement under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and supports good health practice.
Failure to wear the correct uniform will directly impact a student's grade in Physical Education.

Participation in Physical Education
Physical Education is a compulsory part of secondary education in Western Australia. Students must participate unless a valid medical exemption is provided.
Non-Participation Guidelines:
A signed note from a parent/guardian is required.
A Medical Certificate from a GP or specialist must be provided.
Certificates from physiotherapists or chiropractors will not be accepted.
Students are expected to return to PE once the medical certificate expires unless otherwise advised in writing by a parent/guardian.
Students will be given alternative written work and will remain under staff supervision during PE time to meet duty-of-care requirements.
May result in no grade being awarded for the Movement and Physical Activity outcome on the semester report. If possible, students may take on supportive roles such as scoring or umpiring.
Will be managed under the school's Behaviour Management Policy, which may include:
- Upper-school class withdrawal
- After-school detention
- Suspension

Extra Curricular Activities
There is a range of extracurricular and interschool sporting opportunities available to Albany SHS students throughout the year. These are conducted in addition to the programmed Health and Physical Education curriculum.
The Upper School Certificate lll students assist in coaching, umpiring and organising many of the extracurricular activities in conjunction with the Health and Physical Education staff. This goes towards their attainment within specific modules in their Certificate lll Sport and Recreation course. They also assist Albany Primary School with several sporting events throughout the year.
