It’s that time of year again—our students are off to Country Week 2025!
With 12 teams, 115 athletes, 15 staff, and four buses, it’s set to be another massive week of competition, camaraderie, and school spirit. On average, students will play 1 to 2 games per day, meaning our teams will collectively compete in 15 to 20 matches daily across a range of sports.
Expectations are high this year, with around 50% of the squad comprising Year 12 students, bringing leadership, experience, and determination to the field, court, or pitch.
But it’s not all just about the scoreboard. Students will also enjoy fun activities outside of sports, including ten-pin bowling, swimming, and shared meals, making lifelong memories along the way.
Good luck to all Albany SHS athletes, coaches, and support staff—your school and community are right behind you!
Captains' Report – Arrival Kesia Kelleher-Bird (Touch), Max Sheridan (Hockey), Jamie Carrington (Soccer), and Alaia Williams (Volleyball)
We arrived at the bus shed bright and early at 7:00 am, greeted by a beautiful sunrise, though it was still a little dark. After a quick group photo, Quinny delivered a heartfelt and inspiring speech that energised us for the week ahead. With that, we loaded up the buses and set off on our journey to Perth.
The bus ride was filled with music, singing, and high spirits. The tradition of wearing silly accessories as a consequence for forgetting something was quickly revived, setting the tone for a fun trip. In Kojonup, we crossed paths with Grammar and engaged in a tense but hilarious stare-off. From there, the journey flew by, especially once the larger buses overtook the Rosa. Apparently, it has a speed limiter… though some suspect it was more to do with McBeath behind the wheel.
Once we arrived in Perth, we checked into the hotel and settled in. That evening, we headed out for a round of ten-pin bowling, where the basketball girls made a statement with a colourful collection of bob wigs. Heath bowled an impressive 158 to take the win, with Rhys close behind on 152.
Dinner followed at the Freo Italian Club, which—as always—delivered great food. The footy girls managed to score first dibs on the meals thanks to some very questionable judging of a national anthem sing-off.
Finally, we made it back to the hotel and settled in for a well-earned rest. A great start to what promises to be an unforgettable week!
Opening Ceremony Albany Senior High School proudly took part in the Country Week Opening Ceremony, with our School Captains, Ashton and Dakota, leading the team into what is recognised as the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.
Country Week brings together approximately 40 schools, 3,000 students, and over 200 teachers and support staff for a week of sport, teamwork, and school spirit.
Well done to our School Captains and the entire Albany SHS team for representing our school community with pride. Best of luck for a successful and enjoyable week of competition!
