Headspace Presentation – Supporting your Young Person

Held in room 6 with representatives from headspace Albany, families are invited to join one of their two ‘Supporting your Young Person’ information sessions. Headspace representatives will provide families with information on online services, and how to keep mentally healthy. These presentations will be beneficial for everyone to attend.

Technical Support
Where: Room 35
When: 2.00 pm; 3.30 pm; and 5.00 pm

Being held in one of our Computer labs, room 35, and led by our very own Mr Zac Matthews and Ms Emma Pedretti, parents and students are invited to attend one of three extremely important and informative sessions. Get your technical questions answered regarding the school’s use of Compass, Connect and One Drive and how our families can benefit by embracing these applications.
What we will be covering:
Compass: logging on, accessing attendance, emailing teachers, viewing your child’s timetable, permission notes
Connect: logging on, viewing your child’s results, accessing class resources
One Drive: how your child can save their work on the cloud so they can access it from any device, use of Immersive Reader (read aloud), and Dictate (speech-to-text) functions
Questions, answers & support will available at the end of the 30-minute presentation.

UniReady in Schools (for students and parents/carers of Year 10 and 11 students)
Where: Performing Arts Theatre
When: 2.00 pm; and 5.00 pm
Who: Current Year 10 and 11 students and their parents/carers
ASHS will be partnering with Curtin University to introduce a new program, UniReady in Schools, for a select group of Year 12 students in 2022.
By completing the university style program, students will achieve:
* A nominal ATAR score of 70 which will give them entry to a variety of university courses.
* WACE – providing all other WACE requirements are met.
This information session will include:
* Criteria that students will be required to meet to be offered a place in the program
* Information on academic expectations
* How the course will be delivered at school

Supporting your Child’s Success – Middle School
Where: Library

Who: Parents/Carers and Students of Years 7-9
Aimed at Years 7-9 families, parents and students are invited to one of our general information sessions held by our Program Coordinator of Student Services Mr Jason Seal in our Library.
Covering topics such as: Introducing the Student Services Support Team; Homework and Study; Communicating with the school; the school's behaviour systems (eg time out); Setting goals and looking to the future; Anxiety and resilience; time for Q & A – these sessions would be highly beneficial for all families and their student/s of Years 7-9 to attend.

Supporting your Child’s Success – Senior School

Aimed at Years 10-12 families, parents and students are invited to one of our general information sessions held by our Senior School Deputy Principal, Mr Wayne Austin in our Library.
Covering topics such as: Student Services Support Team – who are they; Senior School Pathways and how to achieve success in chosen courses; Supports for Senior School Students; Advocacy – what is it and what is covered in the program; and WACE Requirements – these sessions would be highly beneficial for all families and their student/s of Years 10-12 to attend.

Fear-Less Seminar – Triple P program
Where: Room 18
When: 4.00 – 6.00 pm
Who: Parents/Carers of children and teenagers aged 6-14 years; all parents/carers are welcome
Part of the Positive Parenting Program, starting at 4.00 pm, this two hour Fear-Less seminar will be held in room 18 with our School Psychologist, Ms Renae Davies.
Everyone experiences anxiety occasionally. Anxiety is a normal response that can be helpful and typically passes quickly. However, anxiety can sometimes get overwhelming.
Learning to manage anxiety effectively is a vital life skill.
This FREE two-hour seminar, presented by our School Psychologist offers information about:
* Key anxiety-management skills that parents can teach children
* An understanding of how anxiety works
* Knowledge of how to help children develop coping skills and face feared situations
*How to manage children’s anxious behaviour effectively.
Please note that there is no child-minding available. It is recommended that children are not brought along to this session.

Guided School Tours
Where: Administration
When: 2.00 pm; 3.30 pm; and 5.00 pm
Who: Everyone
Led by our student leaders, families are invited to join one of the three tours taking place throughout the evening. Starting from our Administration building at 2.00, 3.30, and 5.00 pm, our student leaders will take you around the school to our classrooms to view student work displays. Finishing in our staffroom, you will have the opportunity to meet and speak with some of our Board and P&C members and will be invited to join them for a cuppa whilst you take in the future plans of ASHS on display.
Bookings are not required for one of these guided school tours, please meet in the Administration building prior to the scheduled start time.
Families will also be welcome to take themselves on a self-guided tour – collect a map from our Administration staff and make your own way around the designated classrooms.
