On a beautiful Monday in Week 9 of Term 1, the Year 9 cohort visited the Princess Royal Fortress precinct on Mounts Adelaide and Clarence as part of their World War One studies in Humanities.
Throughout the day, students explored key historical sites, including the Avenue of Honour, the Desert Mounted Corps Memorial, the Coastal Defence Fortress, the Fort, the Fort Museum, and the National ANZAC Centre. Engaging in various activities at these locations deepened their understanding of Albany’s role in both World Wars and Australia’s defence history.
A highlight for many was exploring the defence fortress—walking through tunnels, clambering over the big guns, and seeing the slit trenches firsthand. The visit to the ANZAC Centre was a particularly special experience, offering students a powerful insight into the personal stories of those who served.
This excursion provided an enriching and immersive experience that allowed students to connect with Australia’s military past while appreciating Albany’s significant historical role.
