2020 - Clean Up Australia Day

Clean Up Australia Day
Whole School

Students at Albany Senior High School had their eyes opened to the many ways of reducing waste during Clean Up Australia Day activities.

Students sorted their rubbish into various categories ready for recycling. They learned about recycling options beyond the household recycling service provided by the City of Albany.

Students were encouraged to bring in empty toothpaste tubes and broken pens for Terracycling, soft plastics that can be turned into plastic benches and bollards and usable items that could go to op-shops or Fossickers tip shop. They also picked up litter from across the school grounds.

In the week prior to Clean Up Australia Day, students also participated in lessons in class that raised their awareness of the impact of plastic in the ocean.

Student participation was rewarded with tickets for a raffle that included prizes donated by Albany Retravision, Albany Ecohouse, Paperbark, Goodlife, Alkaline Café and Icky Finks.

Albany Senior High School has recently become an accredited Waste Wise School.
