An enjoyable day at the North Road Athletics ground was assisted by the chants of all competing schools; the warm, vibrant sunshine and the ASHS student’s aura of enthusiasm. The day started strongly with each ASHS student cheering on the next. In every event, the students were in the contest, displaying their competitive drive and talent.
In Division One, North Albany Senior High School (NASHS) were a worthy opponent along with St Josephs College (St Joes) and Great Southern Grammar school (GSS). The battle for the title was unpredictable between the schools. In the end, NASHS were too strong on the day and took out the number one spot with 986 points.
The battle for second was captivating, between ASHS and St Joes. It all ended up coming down to the final events for the day, the relays. In the fullness of time, St Joes took out second place on 804 points, ASHS on 798 points and GSG on 677 points.
Individual students who shone on the day included Colby Felton – Year 7 Champion Boy, and Keely Berry – Year 7 Runner-up Champion Girl. For the Year 10 students, this was there last Athletics Carnival, so they went out on a bang. Ryley Valli took out the Year 10 Runner-up Champion Boy and Fred Opuni the Year 10 Champion Boy.
