This year, Albany Senior High School introduced MacqLit, an explicit, targeted small-group reading intervention program designed to support older, low-progress readers. Students are identified through screening, and the program delivers systematic instruction in phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, with growth tracked through regular progress monitoring.

In this inaugural year, MacqLit students have completed substantial lesson sequences and are demonstrating steady, incremental gains in their literacy, along with increasing confidence across their subjects. MacqLit is delivered by a trained Education Assistant in a calm, supportive environment where students are immersed in purposeful literacy resources and high-quality decodable readers, helping them build the foundational skills needed for continued success.
