The Year 8 Marine and Maritime students had an exciting opportunity this term as they became the first group to use the brand new marine and maritime balance boards, which marked a significant milestone for the program. Students received hands-on experience using equipment designed to enhance their practical skills in a fun and active way.
The balance boards have been introduced to help students improve their coordination, balance, and core strength—skills that are essential not only in maritime activities but also in sports like surfing and skateboarding. The boards simulate the movement and instability of being on a board in the water, allowing students to practise maintaining control and stability in a safe and controlled environment.
Students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm, showing persistence and teamwork as they adapted to the new equipment. Their energy and willingness to give it a go set a positive tone for the continued use of the boards in future classes. The introduction of this equipment represents a step forward in providing engaging, skills-based learning in the Marine and Maritime program, and the Year 8s were proud to lead the way.
