The Albany Youth Orchestra (AYO) rehearses on Monday afternoons in the ASHS Performing Arts Theatre (PAT). The AYO is a string orchestra and gives performance opportunity and experience to the violin, viola, cello and most of the double bass students at ASHS, as well as to some other students from surrounding schools. The AYO competed in the Albany Eisteddfod in 2013 and was awarded a First Prize; the orchestra was invited to open the prestigious Winners’ Concert at the Albany Entertainment Centre for the second year in a row. This year the AYO had the great privilege of work-shopping with the ‘Swan Virtuosi’ a string trio made up of members of the WA Symphony Orchestra. In Term 1 of 2014, the Australian Chamber Orchestra will be offering a similar opportunity when Swan Virtuosi come to Albany to perform in April.
